Reunion Ideas Here!

Hey Everyone:

Deb just made the incredibly reasonable suggestion that we limit our discussion of the reunion to one post so we can see what everyone's talking about.

If you have ideas or want to discuss our 31st reunion, please post them here!

Thanks!!

Claudia

I have started gathering info on venues and will post best options here when all info collected. We can take a vote. Lori, Greta, and I will meet soon and check out our options.
The date is Sat July 21st, 2007 - do we all agree?
Need someone to organize a Friday event - maybe at a bar or at someones house
Also, need someone to organize a Sunday, family, thing. Hopefully by a lake. Any one have a cottage nearby?
We need a computer person or 2 to work on a DVD presentation. A before & after or a thru the years sort of thing.
That's it for now.

Anonymous said...

Peggy, Lori, & Greta,-
Please let us "out of towners" do everything else that doesn't require being there. I will attempt to do the DVD, I said that before in some post somewhere.?
Also, I just got a Shorewood ALumni Newsletter Called the "Connection". Did anyone else get it? They have a whole section in there for Reunion Information (FYI: Class of l948 is having one Sept 14-16 2007). I guess we have a definate date?? We then just need a contact person listing their phone number & email address, so it can go into this Alumni Newsletter and the SHS Web Site also!!!! Who wants to be the contact person for the reunion? Should be someone who is on their computer a lot. Claudia do you want to, or are you happy being the Web Master - Blog Queen? Should be it someone in Milwaukee? I will then contact SHS with that info, and find out when the next issue comes out. Does that sound OK with everyone?

Me again. Sorry I'm rambling.
I agree with Joan.
Regarding Venues: Country Clubs, Restaurants, & Hotels I find to be the most organized when it comes to functions. The more they take care of, the better, that way we are not dealing with separate caterers, bar, renting tables/chairs etc etc. Someplace where everything is right there. How about those Mitchell Domes, (Claudia that would be so cool), Ha Ha HA. JUST A JOKE.
But I am serious about golf. Could an optional golf game be part of the weekend? Sat. or Sunday morning, or Friday afternoon? Maybe then my husband could be dragged from his summer golfing here in Mass.??
There was a raffle @ the 20th Reunion Right? We could do the same, only ear mark it to the Gary Morrison Scholarship at SHS?
Any thoughts, comments?
Deb

Deb,
I agree. I am getting info packets from some of the hotels, the Hubbard Lodge, and a few banquet facilities.
We will be sure to include a golf outing in the works. I think Saturday morning would be best.
If you have time, go ahead and contact the SHS alumni paper and go ahead with the date. I think you should refer ppl to this site for reunion info. If you need a contact name you can use me.
As for doing the DVD - I didn't want to put that all on you, but that would be great. Must include 70's music (Ha, ha). You should get someone to help you because it sounds like a big job.

Would it make sense to have just a link at the top somewhere to a page that would have lists of ideas and addresses?

Anonymous said...

I like that idea, but it would have to be a link to another blog, wouldn't it? I'm trying to think what else we could link to on the internet that wasn't a website...

Anonymous said...

why not a website?

Anonymous said...

exactly.

Anonymous said...

I agree, but doesn't a Web Site need to be registered, and cost money to keep it up every month? Unlike the Blog which is free? I may be wrong? But I agree about a prominant place.
Peggy, do you want your phone number along with your email address on as the contact person? If so what is it? I can wait to put that info - awaiting decision on Web site,vs.this "Slackers" address? Since the Alumni issue is current, I am sure there is time for the next one, but will email and find out what the Deadline is for getting into into SHS Newsletter.
WE NEED PEOPLE THERE to have a successful reunion. Publicity is the Key right now, so that people can SAVE THE DATE. Any suggestions other than emailing classmates, who are not invovled in this Blog. How about the SHorewood HErald, Does that still exist? Or wait until we have a list of "Unable to locates" to put in?
What does everyone think?

Me again.....Here's an idea to get people on the band wagon.
I emailed the 20th Reunion Photo to those few that I have emails for, who have not been involved in the Blog. Told them the 31st reunion information, and hope the picture will really peek their interest, in hopes they'll want to come, or at least visit the blog.

email addresses are hard to find-- it's easier to look up names& phone numders. Then just pick up the phone and dial

Thanks Peggy and everyone else for organizing and etc. et al.

Why July 21st? Why not offer a few options for dates and have people express preferences? -- as we have PLENTY of time.

I, for one, do not favor 7/21st........(Far distant) out of towners like me could PREFER a three- or four-long weekend date, say to combine with the extra vacation day(s) often associated with July 4th or Labor Day (firs week of September).

Does anyone else agree with me that suggesting options for dialogue/preferred choices is a good way to go? -- rather than simply choosing a date.....?

I'd appreciate the favor..........Daniel

Anonymous said...

Hi Dan,
Here are thoughts involved with choosing the 21st. Many peolple I spoke with said that holiday weekends were out due to family obligations, vacations, etc... We also wanted to stay away from mid Aug on because of those with kids in school. Pre SHS blog site days I talked with quite a few people that thought this date would be good. Any time after the 4th but before mid Aug would work. But if we are to change the date, we need to do so soon. I am already finding places that don't have availibility on alot of the summer Saturdays. I'm flexible.

Sorry, #2: (My last comment was placed at the bottom rather than top where you can more easily notice it).......Peggy, etc. organizers:

I checked my 2007 datebook. Folks may rather wish to spend time with their immediate families over Labor Day, but this year it falls on 9/3/07, so that could be an option (?)

In other words, that three-day weekend would allow people from out of state to travel to WI for an extended stay -- and, given I come from n. CA, that logistic consideration is important. There must be others from far away that would prefer a three-day weekend (or four-day weekend option granted gratis from work perks)? -- in lieu of the 7/21 date Peggy mentioned.........Thanks again for considering my opinion, Daniel

Anonymous said...

OK, Peggy. Thanks.

But instead of July, how about mid-June? Even May would be an option, no? -- if you're having trouble finding venues that have scheduling space because of competition from other functions.

Lastly, did you consider the Lake Park Pavilion overlooking L. Michigan? Is that an option?

Thanks again for your hard work.......Daniel

Hi All~
I understand everyones concerns regarding a date. Three Day weekend would be nice, but I sence that Peggy could be right about the family conflict thing.
I know from past experience trying to find a weekend that is good for a large number of people is nearly impossible, (I find that with my immediate family too.) I think that if there is enough notice - whatever reasonable date is doable. Labor Day won't work for me, and may not for others who would have to get kids off of to school/college etc. I think the majority will have to rule in this case. Any date will be a conflict for some, never going to please everyone I suspect?
FYI: You know here in New England there is only one day that is the BIG high school REUNION Saturday and that is the Saturday after Thanksgiving! I guess they feel everyone will be home visiting their families for Turkey Day. Since I have no immediate family left in Milwaukee, that would make no difference for me.
It will be hard for Peggy to research venues, unless she narrows down a date(s), I suspect.
What does everyone else think?

Anonymous said...

Dan,
Lake Park pavilion is on the list. I wouldn't mind a May date but am concerned that those ppl with kids in school may have a hard time traveling at the end of the school year. Mid June works, too. How does everone else feel about that time?

Anonymous said...

Dan, can't you just take off without the work perks-- wouldn't seeing all the "elderly apples" be a perk??

Anonymous said...

Where the Heck is the Lake Park Pavillian? I don't think I ever heard of it? Where is it?
Not that it really matters, I just cannot envision it? I have been gone too long I guess.

Anonymous said...

Anita and everyone:

Yes! You're correct, I'll take off of work to see everyone regardless of the situation -- and whether I get paid time off or "unpaid" time.

The Reunion means a lot to me and, thus, that's why I'm willing to help as a volunteer.

That said, I was simply looking at the lead time as a good cushion of time whereby organized planning could lead to it happening in an easier manner (for me, who is traveling from afar and require a day's travel time for each way, given my location in n. CA).

In any event, I'm simply glad there's such a nice push and enthusiasm -- and I hope that I can help in the effort, too.

Ultimately, if Peggy chooses May over July, I'd be pleased (based on her latest comment). But maybe we have another week or two to hear what other people also prefer?

As stated by another (Deb, I believe), it may be slim pickings and our choice of date may already be dictated somewhat by what's available (?) Correct, Deb?

As for the Lake Park Pavillion, it's at the end of Newberry on the east side, about 1 mile south of UWM and where Wahl Ave. and Lake Drive converge. It overlooks L. Michigan and was refurbished in the recent past, so now it's a marvelous setting for occasions like ours.

Regards! Daniel

Anonymous said...

I know of all those streets, just cannot picture the building. Just my curiosity, and shock at my lack of brain cells in the memory department. Living on the east side all my life, I really cannot believe that I can't picture it? I bet that it is wonderful, and worth checking out! I remember going to an historic buildings seminare and learning of some sort of Milw. Brewery, or grain building, that was restored fabulously as well. I worked on many historic propertys in NEw england, and they are great to have events in.
Anyway, lets see what others have to say about a date, and see how that compaires to what dates Peggy finds available at all the above mentioned locals!

Dan,
Lake Park Pavillan is actually called Bartolatta's Lake Park Bistro. An upscale, expensive and really, really good reataurant. It has French bistro cuisine.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Deb, I like and appreciate and agree with your idea expressed above in the 7:47 pm posting.......I'm West Coast time so I guess this post will be at around 11:34 CST........But it's still "early" here for this Elderly Apple (who is, perhaps coincidentally) using an Apple computer.......)........Thanks, Deb.......Daniel

Just an idea, what do you think about a 70's theme party? Since I live so far away and would like to help in some way, I would like to pay for the DJ.
Any dates work for me.
Laurel

Unknown said...

I love that idea, Laurel. I still think we had incredible music, even though we were in the shadow of the 60s at the time -- from Bowie to Springsteen to, yes, disco, I still listen to a lot of it.

Of course, it may only be the girls dancing, as it is mainly the girls blogging here, but...the boys can watch!

Anonymous said...

Joan I probably should'nt say this ( Claudia will have a heart attack), but I still love that disco!
I still listen to all that music from the 60's and 70's. For my 20th anniversary we had 3 dog night preform (Chuck Negron is a friend) and then it turned into a big disco party afterwards. We had the party in our backyard, I'm sure the neighbors really enjoyed the music until 4am.
My kids know all the songs since I make them listen to it when I'm driving!
Laurel

Anonymous said...

That is great! Love the 70's music. But do we have to dress like that decade? I just sent my "classic 70's" themed dress to the SHS Costume department?
Heard from Patti Brietbach, and Lisa Nickolas, asking for the Blog info, and are excited about a reunion.

Anonymous said...

Why will Claudia have a heart attack? I liked disco....sort of.

And I like the '70's idea, really -- but you mean like we all dress up in cuffed pants and platform shoes, or India prints and clogs? And David Meyer wears his flares? And then we listen to Neil Young, Lou Reed, and Steely Dan (slowly wrapping her mind around the idea of a "theme party")and eat...hamdingers? And Sizzlean? And drink...Harvey Wallbangers? Like that?

Anonymous said...

Deb, can you get the dress back? We'll do what ever it takes!
Claudia, never took you for disco--you make me proud!
It's fun, bellbottoms, platforms, whatever you want to wear, but casual. Let's have fun!

I do love my hair. I have a lot of it. I'm grateful for that, and so much else.

I just want to thank all of you for taking the lead in setting up the reunion. As Bano can probably attest to, it is a pretty thankless job and everyone has an opinion, but few want to help. Even though I live here in good old Shorewood, I just as soon not take a real prominant role in its development, given my other time commitments (though I am sure you are all busy too). Candidly I am not much of a party organizer, though I am a good attender (provided it is not during the the last 2 weeks of June when I will be overseas, I will be there). Nevertheless, if you end up needing assistance with a task, let me know. For example, I can probably help you locate some classmates.

Joan, as far as dancing goes, it won't be just you girls. I know Mitch is already working on several interpretive dances he wishes to showcase. While I don't want to ruin his surprise, he did let slip that one involves veils and peacock feathers. I am sure it will be quite festive! When he heard about the potential 70's theme, he also started working on one with a Starsky & Hutch theme. Mitch loves dressing up as Huggy Bear.

Hi all,

I'm in for the reunion. I live in Shorewood and can help out in the process. July 21 is just fine with me my social calendar isn't too filled up at this point and I would change it if it was. I look forward to a fun weekend with everyone from the class of 76

I just read my post, which maybe I should do before I hit "publish", and I had to laugh at my usage of being a good "attender". I am also a "uniter, not a divider" and I am skilled at "strategisms". Maybe I should put away my George Bush dictionary.

I started making a list of all 76 grads (almost done). It's in Excel format with last known addresses and phone #'s. Got info from Lori's last list and the senior yearbook. Would like to make it available for all to see - is this possible? This will help in contacting many more people.
My thought is that if they're alive - they're coming to the reunion. We'll break into homes and take them at gun point, if need be. Too bad Gary is not around. For senior skip out day he actually grabbed me in the parking lot and carried me to his car. I was forced to spend the day at Lori's cabin, drinking beer and having fun.
Off to work...

Lori's cabin...possible venue for Sunday outing. Hmmmm.

I don't remember anything about a senior skipout. Where WAS I?

Am enjoying reading thru all of the posts! Please know that I am willing to assist in the planning process if needed. I live in Waukesha County so I'm still "close to home". While not particularily computer savvy, I'm adept at search engines and word docs so no power point or hyperstudio presentations for this gal please. Would be happy to shop for a surrogate '70's outfit for Deb! And Mitch's interpretive dance presentation-waiting with bated breath! Did you say veils AND peacock feathers?! Oh be still my beating heart!

Anonymous said...

I think that my '70 dress went up in smoke with the rest of the costumes during the SHS Auditorium Fire?
I dont' recall Senior Skip Day, but I was too "goodie two shoes" in High School to possibly get in trouble.
Anyway, Jim is right I am sure Bano is Burnt out from Reunion planning & organizing. Was Thankless, but I think we are all more mature, willing to help, and together we can "pull it off".
So Bano no need to hide, I personally excuse you from any work, or planning, except to attend of course, and maybe provide addresses? Or providing the "kidnapers" that Peggy was refering to!!!

Anonymous said...

Speaking of Bano, yes, his past Herculean efforts on behalf of #20 Reunion could or should exempt him from helping too much for our #31. As mentioned, I'll volunteer to pick up some of the duties.

Meanwhile, Bano, pretty please with sugar on top: Can we all go to the Police Station and you'll sneak us into the firehouse to slide down the firepole? Can I please-please also ring the siren on your squad car? :-)

"Maybe put in the Lock Up"

Anonymous said...

If we stay close to Shorewood, at least we know we can keep from getting arrested!

If I remember right, they threatened to not let us walk at graduation if we did a senior skip day. That scared enough of us that those who did go didn't look quite so conspicuous! I have to laugh-- at my kids' high school they say they can't condone skip day and then they make suggestions that if they were going to have it, this would be a good day. They even request that someone casully mention the date to some of the teachers so they can plan for it-- unofficially of course. I guess after Columbine and stuff like that, a senior skip day seems pretty mild.

Hey Joanie,
U look FABULOUS!!!!

More than your hair, though, I've always been enamored w/ your sense of humor. Those in my world have no idea where I get my sarcasm - you were my mentor. By the way...did we ever "juxatopose" together!? Svengali Jimmy Lee always had me under some influence and I can't remember much from those bygone, thank god gone, days!!!!

Unknown said...

Jimmy did try to keep us apart, Mitch, but I do remember occasionally speaking in the halls of SHS and frightening people away with our superior wit. And sarcasm.

I've stayed close to Scott since high school, he made it easy by marrying my cousin! And also by living in New York, since I'm here a lot. I did my best to guilt trip him into blogging, and he did commit to July 21!

When Maddie started growing up and not being too concerned any more about whether Robert and I left her with one of her beloved babysitters, Robert would always look over his shoulder at her as we were walking out the door and say to me, "Mom and Dad? Who are they?"

This is the reason I say of people who are constantly ignoring me (Scott Smith, Bano, for instance): Who's Scott Smith? Who's Bano?

It's supposed to be a joke (coughs, buffs fingernails).
