Here's A Fair Question:

Name three (3) of the best movies you've seen in the past thirty (30) years.

I'll go first. These are not in order, just three (3) of the best I can think of at the moment:

1. Tender Mercies
2. Fight Club
3. A Room With A View

And no fair thinking too hard!

Okay, whattaya got?

1. Annie Hall - Sophisticated comedy at the height of Woody's genius.

2. When Harry met Sally - What a combo between Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. And, arguably the best romantic ending / dialog in recent film.

3. Fargo - Excellent cast, excellent story, excellent all around.

If everyone had a good sense of humor, the world would be a lot better off.

Buzz Stephens said...

1. Grey Gardens

2. Unforgiven

3. L.A. Confidential

Anonymous said...

Andy: Yes, Annie Hall, of course!

And I found Fargo VERY touching, too!

Dan Not Bennett: I KNEW some wise guy was going to name a movie I've never heard of! I liked those other two very much, though! Plus I have a terrible crush on Russell Crowe. Silly.

Anonymous said...

1. Shawshank Redemption
2. Flirting With Disaster
3. Stand By Me

Claudia, I bet you were tons of fun at pajama parties. Hmmm...a pajama party...that's an idea...

Anonymous said...

I've never even heard of Flirting With Disaster -- but those other two are Stephen King stories...are you a fan?

Anonymous said...

Loved all of the above, but I CAN'T Do it, I just cannot do a mere 3 movies. I need sub catagories....
Best Action/ Best Romantic comedy
Best Tom Hanks flick/ Best Film Noir etc etc. I'm sorry CLaudia, cannot do just three faborite movies. I could probably attempt three movies within each sub catagory.....maybe..... I'm sorry,
I would even have a problem with narrowing down within catagories. I have failed this task.
I am somewhat of a movie buff, with very eclectic taste. Low brow - high brow, doesn't matter. I laughed so hard at "Weekend at Bernies" and saw "Ghostbusters" again the other night, and was chuckling all by myself at 1:00 a.m.
Yes, re: Dan B
There is always someone who tosses out the name of some independant flick that no one has heard of. Why do I think that you mentioned Grey Gardens 'cause you are in it, or something???? Can I rent it at the local Hollywood video, or do you have bootlegged copies available?

Anonymous said...

Well, as you probably noticed about this post, Deb...it is neither fair nor a question!

I do remember Mr. Huth referring to a "top 12" movies list; didn't he say that 10 best movies were not enough -- listing 12 was more fair?

Go for it, Deb!

Anonymous said...

Oh yes, and I'll always have a special place for Body Heat.

(that doesn't sound right, does it!)

Anonymous said...

I'll second Body Heat
and add Man In Love
and Barfly

Anonymous said...

Barfly? Was that Mickey Rourke?

Anonymous said...

Flirting with disaster is a great movie with Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette. I give it a 2 thumbs up.

Anonymous said...

Anita,
Barfly was so depressing.

Anonymous said...

I think Anita likes Mickey Rourke...Anita, did you see The Pope of Greenwich Village, by any chance?

Anonymous said...

OK, MY FAVORITES:
1. HELLRAISER 1,2,3,4 and5!
2.FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC
3.CHILDREN OF THE CORN 1,2,3,4,5 AND6!
4. BODY HEAT ( the only one, I really saw)
5.SOUL MAN
This could go on and on, but I don't wan't to bore anyone.
I know I was only supposed to say 3, but I did'nt want to offend my poor husband, who made these!

Anonymous said...

Claudia, I even went over 12! Let's not forget Reform school girls, too! Thats enough memories for me for one night. Love all your questions though, it makes it interesting, and you thought tag would be a failure!

Anonymous said...

Laurel,
Sometimes I refer to my kids as the children of the corn (they are worthy of the title, sometimes). Did he really make that movie? It scared the hell out of me. I couldn't sleep alone for years.

Anonymous said...

I LOVE a really scary movie -- top three scariest for me:

1. The Exorcist
2. The Ring
3. The Shining (with Jack)

Haven't seen Ch.of Corn but I will now if it's really scary! The Ring scared the crap out of me (children coming out of wells with hair in their eyes -- no no!!) And the very ending of The Blair Witch Project rearranged my brain, I think, for about a week. That guy facing the corner in the end -- forget about it!

Anonymous said...

Yes, Peggy it's true. I had a small cameo in it, only because my niece wanted to be in it. We filmed the movie in S.Carolina, all I remember is lots of rain and trying to keep the kids happy!
I still have not watched the entire movie!

Anonymous said...

I rarely have time to sit down to watch a movie-- I saw those a real long time ago. Now I will add to my list of when-I-find-the-time movies to watch.

Anonymous said...

Trying to come up with 3 movies is tough one, but I certaily agree with Peggy on two of her choices:Shawshank Redemption ( one of the great travesties for me is that Brave Heat won the oscar that year for best pictures...Shawshank was so much better in my humble opinion as was Rob Roy), Stand By Me with a young River Phoenix is also marvelous. For my third choice I am torn between The Usual Suspects or Shakespeare in Love; I will go with the latter if I must pick three to show my softer side.

By the way Laurel, I admire your family devotion in picking your husband's movies. While I have never been in a picture myself, I can claim that my name has. In Airplane, there actually is a Captain Neubauer. My oldest brother also has a cameo in that movie, while my neices were in Ghost sitting on the couch with Demi Moore during the wake for Sam Wheat.

MikeSz said...

These are all super movies, esp. Shawshank, but without thinking, these pop into my head. These movies - i'd sit down and watch them again anytime.

1. Knife in the Water
2. 12 Angry Men (the old one)
3. Hero

All have a lot of great characters and twists and turns.

As s person who rarely finds time anymore to go to the movies I have two movie survival strategies to maximize my viewing of the good stuff, which I would boil down to :
a. Tivo
b. Yahoo movies, used in a specific way.

Best to all,
Mike

Anonymous said...

Ditto on all the above, & will definately see Children of the Corn now. (I heard it was very scarey)!
My neighbor down the street looks like Jack Nicholson in the Shining. He is scarey!!
OK Claudia, I'll try.....here are some new ones to the list:
1. Good Will Hunting
2. Field of Dreams, (sucker for sports flicks)
3. The Sting
No film cameos for me, but a friend was in Shindlers List,(great movie), and my other neighbor was in Jaws IV, but she ended up on the cutting room floor. (She was 8 months pregnant & thinks that on film she looked bigger than the shark)!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Had to pick 6 ... not in any order really. A good mix of comedy, action pics, and bigger than life films.

Spinal Tap (up there with Airplane and Best in Show in the spoof category)

North by Northwest (classic)

Great Escape (classic)

Hero (good choice Mike)

Local Hero (not a martial arts film, a great cast of oddballs plus Burt Lancaster and Peter Riegert (Boone from Animal House))

Pure Luck (my daughter thinks Martin Short is funny)

Anonymous said...

Love N x NW & the Great Escape. My son is reading that book right now.

Anonymous said...

This was not easy to think of off the top of my head - there are so many greats out there in the past 30 years. Go back even further and that is where my true favorites are.
- One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
- Fargo
- Being There
- The Grifters
sorry, couldn't leave one out, already had to leave out Unforgiven.
Favorite sweaty film - Body Heat
Favorite creepy movie - Silence of the Lambs. As great as The Exorcist and The Shining were I have never viewed them twice, on purpose!
Favorite comedy - Airplane. Not being partial here, really!

Anonymous said...

Oh my gosh, Story, The Grifters! Yes!!

I had no idea we had so many Body Heat fans here!

Deb, Dave -- the Great Escape -- I think I saw that at least 17 times in England. When I was 10 I wanted to grow up to be Steve McQueen. And The Sting...well anything with (sigh) Paul Newman -- how about Cool Hand Luke! Man, every time that's on I can't drag myself away!

Anonymous said...

Story: Silence of the Lambs WAS the most creepy movie I've ever seen; and I saw it on network TV purposly since, I figured they cut all the really bad stuff out, and it was still horrifying.
I remember reading the Excorist before the movie came out, and telling Mr. Huth that was the scariest book I'd ever read.

Anonymous said...

Flick Faves....
..... (BUT what I'm really excited to know is how Laurel's spouse is involved in the movie industry. Wonderful. Please tell us more, Laurel...)

1. Shawshank Redemption (I agree with others above)

2. House of Games

3. March of Penguins

4. Jesus Magic (Sarah Silverman; very funny NYC Hebe Comedian)

5. Robin Williams at the Met (around 2000)

(6. Winged Migration) (Isn't there a sequel? -- as the birds have to return sooner or later, correct?!)

Anonymous said...

Daniel, my husband owned New World Entertainment and Marvel Comics. He sold both to Ron Pearlman and retired. His partner Harry Sloan is now CEO of MGM.
March of Penguins was great.
Did you know that Robin William is married to Marsha Garcia, class of '75 SHS?

Anonymous said...

Deb, We saw Silence of the Lambs at the drive-in. Now that was the way too see it.
I agree with you - The Exorcist was the scariest book for me too! Lori Hoober's dad took us to see the movie when it came out. I had to come home to an empty house. Oh boy, that was not fun!

Anonymous said...

Yes, Laurel: All the testosterone-enriched SHS boys definitely and truly remember who Marcia Garces is and was.....Robin Williams got lucky with his babysitter/au pair, as the story goes.........

Anonymous said...

Dear anonymous, what's the story with Marcia?
Was she popular with the boys?

Anonymous said...

Laurel: You know I bought MGM Stock while a sophomore at SHS, with my babysitting money, and sold it right before I got married, and it paid for most of my wedding, then some.
I too am curious now about Marsha, I knew she was Robins wife, I remember when she was "The Moon Eyes" couple with Jim Sorensen. Sometimes I think that I was SO OUT OF THE LOOP in High School, but maybe that was a good thing? Come on Anonymous, tell us the scoop, Inquiring Minds want to know..

Anonymous said...

OK:

The boys and us just met over a power lunch and we passed a resolution.

We invited you girls up to the treehouse to tell you the truth about Marcia.

On behalf of the board of directors who noticed pretty woman, we little boys all agree:

Anyone who had a pair of eyes (Last I heard, we all got handed those by the stork), thought she was was worth a second look.

The boys also agreed that she's got a good reputation as a good person and doing excellent work for humanity, as we always read about her philanthropy on the coast with good, noble causes.

By the way, I guess Robin Williams noticed her, too.

Other than than obvious beauty, I know nothing of her or her comings and goings......I cannot speak of anything but goodness of her character.

Not too hard on the eyes either, all the boys agree.

Anonymous said...

It is fun to hear from you boys, tell us more, were really bored! Only kidding!

Anonymous said...

It's very quite tonight! Martine will soon be joining us,yeah! I'm going to watch House tonight, does anyone else watch the show? I love it.

Anonymous said...

Laurel I think you're the only person who's posted all day! I've been really busy with some actual WORK and I've had to stay focused...so rare for me!

I don't watch House yet. It's supposed to be wonderful, but I never can get to TV during the week. Reruns...I do reruns.

Can't wait til Martine shows up!

Anonymous said...

Laurel, I just done watching House a bit ago and then E-mailing you, lol.Anyway new Question for the Bloggers. Anyone remember Laurel's nickname in SHS??? Cant wait for some of the Guys responses, lol. Man i have had a blast reading this stuff, although it has required alot of thinking, whewww!
Dan B (I know I know the other one) you have been busting my gut. More to come from me and about me later, Peace all!!!

Anonymous said...

Laurel, put your hand down NO you cannot answer this question!!! lol

Anonymous said...

Laurel's NICKNAME????

Hey Martine, should we offer a prize for this? They could pick up their prize at the reunion...hmmm.

Anonymous said...

Oh Claudia, this could be really good, I mean really good, haaaa.

Anonymous said...

Exactly what I was thinking. Hmmm...

Anonymous said...

Wasn't there some teacher-- I don't really remember-- that called Laurel "motormouth"

Anonymous said...

Ditto Joan. Never heard such eloquence in High School from the Boys
Ditto CLaud, I have so much work to catch up on. The away soccer games are killing me.
I have to go and sand some walls, and go to the dump!

Anonymous said...

Welcome Martine, where are you now?
I do remember that nick name. Which teacher came up with that one?
Only the fondess memories of you guys

Anonymous said...

Attention Dan B
The Duchess of York is in Boston this week. Don't you want to come and step on her dress for old time sake?

Anonymous said...

Hi Anita, it was so nice hearing from you thanks for calling. You are correct about the Nickname (which is true to this day) lol however i don't have a clue which Teacher came up with it.

Anonymous said...

Deb, thanks for the welcome its nice to be here. I still live in Milw. I'm married to the love of my life. I have a Daughter who is 30 and have 2 beautiful Grandchildren. g/s is 7 and g/d is turning 3 in Dec. They live close by so I have the joy and privilege of seeing them often. The innocence and wonder of them is such a joy to watch and be a part of.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Martine! Many of you have such impressive memories. Looking back at my last comment, I think I should read it before just hitting send. I do know how to spell quiet!

Anonymous said...

P.S. I also have a Stepson Mike 27 his passion is Politics.
And Stepdaughter Maggie 24 who is a Social Worker and also works with Autistic children.

Anonymous said...

Well...evidentally the whole class has taken off on a hunting trip or something...in all my years on this blog I've never seen it quite so quiet.

Or is it like the tides? The moon? The...ahhh...seasons?

Okay, here's one of my favorite quotes:

"Pretend to be very good always, and even God will be fooled."
-- Kurt Vonnegut,
Mother Night

and here's another:

"God dares you to care for the people on the edge of the light."
-- David Bowie, Under Pressure

Talk among yourselves.

Heah, Claudia, maybe if I'm lucky they are all hunting Coyotes. HA
I am so behind on paper work, computer work, my contruction projects etc. The soccer play offs were endless. Fun but endless, even my bill paying is behind.
How about favorite TV shows from the 60's & 70's. I loved Lost In Space!!!!

Anonymous said...

Lost In Space WAS fabulous, Deb. Do you remember The Prisoner?

Unknown said...

I loved Lost in Space!

Hi Martine, it is so good to see you! And hear about your great family...I look forward to catching up at the reunion, if not at Laurel's pre-reunion, or Claudia's ski party. We have to get all these things scheduled!

Anonymous said...

Everyone seems to be very busy. I was too today cooking up a storm, it' a passion of mine.
Does anyone else love to cook?

Anonymous said...

Hi Joan, great to see you too, actually saw you on PBS. Joan you were captivating and striking.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Reunion as well.

Anonymous said...

Oh sure Laurel, talking about cooking will haul the Guys back in,lol. Now, tell them you will Cook FOR them, that will get their attention. Actually she is a fantastic cook. I enjoy it but its not a passion.

Anonymous said...

"Danger Will Robinson"
Claud, I don't remember the Prisoner, but remember the Fugitive? My Mom was hooked on Payton Place.
OK at cooking, love to bake, my husband is a far better cook than I.

Anonymous said...

Mark Goddard the actor who played Major Don West, in Lost in Space. H is now a special needs teacher about 20 miles from here. He is very interesting, have heard him on many radio shows etc. Has great "hollywood" stories.

Anonymous said...

Oh I thought Major Don West was a dream. He wore those slacks oh so well, lol.

Anonymous said...

So many interesting things happened here last night as I slept...Laurel, you were in my dream and you looked exactly as you did in high school -- in the dream I was thinking, "what a ripoff!"

I love cooking, too. In fact maybe we should start another blog for our favorite recipes...what storm, exactly, were you cooking up yesterday, Laurel?

Martine you're funny! I'm so glad you're here!

Deb you keep coming out with all these interesting little things in your life -- now Don West!! I have no idea why that's so fascinating, but it is!

Hey, I liked the movie Lost in Space, too...I didn't expect to, but I thought the little girl was a great character -- Penny! (what a name!)

How come I punctuate every sentence with exclamation points?

I'm not really that jumpy in real life...at least I hope I'm not!

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

Aaaah! you guys make my mornings so much more fun!
Hi Martene! I was just wondering if we all were looking at how Major Don West's pants were "hanging" is that why the robot kept running around saying "danger, danger"?! :)

Yes,Claudia let's get a cooking blog going. I love to cook as well. And I'm not much of a baker- with the exception of cake (which I like to bake) Can we include group cooking at Laurel's pre-reunion party (Laurel?)?

Maybe we can lure the guys back in by discussing last nite's results of TV's "Dancing with the Stars".

Anonymous said...

I love to cook, too! (That ! was for Claudia). My dream (one of many that I will never actually do anything about) is to open a place that serves fresh, ready made meals to go. I make a killer lasagne.
Martine - glad you're here. It sounds like life is treating you well. I bet it's great fun being a grandma.

Patti b. toooooo funny about the slacks lololol. Wahoooo somebody who admits to watching "Dancing with the Stars". I picked Mario but doesn't surprise me a bit that Emmit Won, he shook his groove thing.

Anonymous said...

OK, You guys are too much. I know why everyone loves to cook, I cannot believe none of you have come up with the connection yet......
MRS. SEARS at SIS!!! She must be the real reason why so many of you love to cook??? I bet none of you even realized until now. Like a light bulb going on in your head right?????
RE: Don West, I cannot remember the name of the person I met this morning, don't ask me which part of my brain came up with that name.?
I have a GREAT stuffing recipe that even my brother in law, the chief uses, so if anyone needs it, email me and I'll get it to you:
wild rice, cranberrys, apples, orange juice, onions, celery, etc etc etc. YUM

Anonymous said...

Even my husband watches Dancin with the Stars! Do you think either Emitt or Mario could make an appearance at the reunion?

Like I said, you have a future in advertising.

Darling Ladies:

I have some important work to do this morning, but hope to create a blog for our recipes later today. Any ideas for the name of this blog? I will need:

1.) blog name
2.) user name
3.) password
4.) tons of entries!!

This is to the ladies since they were talking about it, but I'll bet almost all of us (the boys included of course) have favorite recipes. later!

(!!!!) c

Anonymous said...

I vote for Patti to come up with the best name for it.

Anonymous said...

Hi Peggy, I would be 1st in line if you opened a place like that, great idea!!!

Life is good today Peggy however that started when I quit drinking 20 years ago, funny how that can help, lol. I've since had plenty of ups and downs but how I "Act" or "React" to each situation is in direct proportion to my Serenity.

Oh yes I LOVE being a Gramma, was just with them last night. I have people ask me all the time what is it like being a Gramma? My response is I can't describe it, it's something you have to experience to understand. How blessed I am to be able to do so!!!

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

Hey Deb, send it to me! My kids are interested in a new stuffing recipe. Even tho I'm not cooking this year for Turkey day, would love to have it for future dinners.

I think that I am odd woman out when you mention the Mrs. Sears connection. I don't remember taking home ec and I absolutely hated to cook when I was a teen. I adamantly stated to my parents that I would not become a Susie Homemaker when I grew up! It wasn't until I moved to Madison that I started to enjoy cooking (most likely out of necessity). My kids are so unlike me as a teen. They acutally like to cook. My older daughter is the designated family cookie/dessert maker and my son dabbles in pasta sauces and breakfast foods. Now if I could get them to clean up with as much enthusiasm as they have for cooking I'd be in heaven.

Hey, just had an idea. This summer my sister-in-law and mother-in-law put together a family cookbook. Everyone sent in favorite recipes with a little story associated with each recipe e.g. I sent in our hummus recipe with a little story about one of our nephews who tried it and ate most of it on a visit to our house. We can sell the books at the reunion and contribute the profit to the scholarship fund. We already have Dan B's fabulous Sangria recipe and Deb's recipe for stuffing! Thoughts?!

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

Wow-you guys blog fast! I missed the last 4 blogs while I was typing my last post. Like the idea of the recipe blog Claud. You are fabulous!

Anonymous said...

Patti that is just the word I was about to use for you and your idea!!! Oh my gosh, a cookbook with proceeds to the memorial -- how excellent is THAT?

We can blog away on our recipe blog, and publish in June to bring to reunion in July. Eh?

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

I'm in!

Anonymous said...

Patti, what a fabulous and thoughtful idea, you go girl!!! :)

Anonymous said...

wow, i can hardly keep up with. i think you have all had your coffee this morning. you guys make me laugh, thank you.
love to cook too. not because of mrs. sears but because of mrs. pederson and mrs. peterson. no not really, because of my mom. she was a fabulous cook. owned the original gourmet cookbooks and julia and james, etc... no surprise that i have a sister who is a chef either. my husband gained 20 years our first year of marriage because of my julia style of cooking. now i rarely cook that way. love to bake and make candy. took a lot of candy making and cooking classes over the years. in madison i took them at orange tree imports - patti, did you ever go there?
i cook mostly from my head, changing recipes as i go. i get all of my ideas from cookbooks and magazines, but i was never very good at following directions. lol.

Anonymous said...

Story, i'm always up for lessons!!!
It's good to see you Story. I will always remember that the 2 of us were the only one's that had different colored eyes. At least I think that was us, lol. If your taking orders for the Holidays i'm in!!! lol

Anonymous said...

I have tooooo much time on my hands today, geezzzzz!!!
Claudia why do you and I do so much of this!!!!!!!!!!! lolol

Anonymous said...

martine you gorgeous woman, it is great to hear from you.
yes, two different colored eyes, you are so funny to remember. hey, when i saw your entry it screamed marty to me. did i use to call you marty a billion years ago???

Anonymous said...

Oh my God yes Story you did and could we please forget you did so, haaaaaaaa!!!

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

Story-I remember Orange Tree imports but never went for classes. Can I consult you with candy making questions? That hard stage/soft stage thing gets my head rolling.
Our cooking styles are very similiar. I love mags, cookbooks etc but rarely stick to an original recipe. Often people ask for a recipe and I say you add some of this then some of that.... Submitting recipes for our family cookbook was a challenge for me for exactly that reason.
Where is your sister a chef? What a cool job!
So with all this talk about cooking-what are y'all making for dinner?

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

So with all this domestic talk we need to reel the guys in. Should we entice them with talk about barbecuing (is that sexist?)
C'mon guys, I know there are some closet gourmets out there! Get in touch with your softer side and jump into the conversation.
Oh, wait-this blog was supposed to be about movies-well here's one of my favorites: "My Dinner With Andre"
(staying within the cooking/eating theme of course!)

Anonymous said...

excellent choice for a foodie movie patti. bebet's(sp?) feast and the big night are also on my foodie movie list.
i am making pappardelle in beef sauce tonight. last night it was red snapper with herb butter. now keep in mind the night before that it was carry-out. it is very hard to get cooking time in when the kids are so busy with sports.
someone please help me in the grilling department. i struggle with anything other than vegetables!
my sister is in the twin cities and has her own catering biz. and caters for a place that i can't remember the name of. if you are familiar with minni i could describe the place for you. she is also a part-time personal chef for a family.

Anonymous said...

Ok in sticking with the Food Theme one of my Fav's is "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".
Then again anything with Sidney Poitier is a Fav. such class, dignity and hubba hubba to boot, lol.

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

Story-I'd like to come over to your house for dinner. I'll bring the wine!

Anonymous said...

I love the idea for a recipe blog and the cookbook.
Last night I did a prime rib roast, garlic mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, with shallot and french green beans. Tonight I'm eating out!

Patti Breitbach Rashid said...

Mmmm-garlic mashed potatoes. Laurel, do you use sour cream in yours?

Well, tonite we're having leftover roast beef (rump roast). I'd like to do something different with the beef-other than over pasta/noodles or with stir fry vegies. I have to get the creative juices flowing by the time I return from teaching at 4:30. Any suggestions out there?

Anonymous said...

Geez I leave you guys alone for a few years and you all become gourmet cooks! You have totally, completely blown me away. When I get back from picking up Maddie, I'm starting our cooking blog...what is it to be called? Patti, was that your job? The name, please! (!!)

love c

Story,
Was Mrs. Pederson (or Peterson) the cooking teacher? I think we were in her class together. It's all coming back to me...
I wonder how many ppl actually added that special ingredient to their brownies in her class.

Anonymous said...

Be still my pounding heart -- Stephen Colbert!! Especially when he sings the National Anthem...
(faints to floor)...if I were ten years younger!! (!)

Anonymous said...

Funny is always, seriously hot -- Colbert is for sure...however, I'm not going to say again how much I admire Russell Crowe since not one (snurgle, burble, snorf!) of you has agreed with me yet!!

I wonder, besides Robin Williams' wife, who the boys like?

Anonymous said...

Claudia
I'll give you Russell Crowe (especially in Cinderella Man) and raise you John Corbett. (!!!!)

Anonymous said...

Ok Joan, usually i'm old school like Sean Connery or Paul Newman and throw in some Cary Grant, Gene Hackman and a host of other "older men".
However if I have to pick 1 it would be bad boy Sawyer on "Lost".
My poor husband just rolls his eyes at me when I watch the show, lol. YUMMY!!!

Anonymous said...

Say Peggy, who's this John Corbett? Is he some hybrid of Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert?

Works for me, sister!

And Martine: Gene Hackman! I thought I was the only one...

Anonymous said...

Ok ok, I'll do it for the Team. If it brings in the Boys I'll Blog Topless.
Wait let me pull the shades and turn out the lights.
Hmmmm, where have I heard that before. Memoriessssssssss!!!
I'm a Football Fanatic, does that help??? oh well.........

Anonymous said...

Claudia - together, they would make one great man! But John Corbett was in Raising Helen, Sex in the City (Carries B-friend)...

Anonymous said...

Go Martine!

Anonymous said...

Martine, you always had that team spirit!
Patti, no I don't use sour cream, but that does sound good!
Claudia, I wish I could think of a good name for the cooking blog, what about COOKING WITH THE SLACKERS! That's a joke. Does anyone have an idea for the name?

Anonymous said...

How about Cheese and Slackers?

Anonymous said...

You should'nt be anonymous, that was really FUNNY!
I think that should be the name.It works too, cheese for Wisconsin and then us! I love it, Claudia and everyone else, what do think!

Ok, 'cuz Joan asked who the boys would pick:

1. Julia Roberts
2. Winona Ryder
3. Natalie Portman
4. Nancy Pelosi (simply for her regal, elegant, confident aura and persona; go Nancy!)
5. Barbara Boxer (same reason)

Anonymous said...

For Stephen Colbert fans (like me), one of his best performances and skewerings is easily found by doing a Google search with the keywords:

"Stephen Colbert's National Correspondent's Dinner Speech"

Enjoy: 24 video minutes of amazing humor and deadpan wit. You're the man, Stephen......my hero......

Claudia, go vote for Russell Crowe here:

I think that will work.

And not just Claud, everyone!

I'd like to go in anonymously and vote for Jimmy Neubauer, but it's against our policies. But someone else could!

76 cheese&crackerslackers Recipies etc.
I LOVE football, and all other sports, (except car racing). So MJB, how do you think the Packers are going to do this Sunday with Belechick and the Patriots????
I have a cheesehead, and it is quite the conversation piece. There are some Die Hard Packer fans here, one friend flew to GB on Chrismtas Eve to see the game, and flew home in time for Santa & her three little kids.

oh my, i am out numbered here with the choice of stephen colbert. the guy does nothing for me. now jon stewart on the other hand...
out of the others mentioned i would have to agree with sawyer. oh yes, indeed! have to say i am tired of the george clooney and brad pitt business. glad there hasn't been a mention of that guy.
and i am sorry, but i can't agree with that julia roberts one either.
pattie, absolutely yes to the sour cream or if not sour cream then i use cream cheese.
huge football fan. we flew to green bay to see brett play his 200th start. the tail-gating at his steak place was a blast.
i love the cookbook idea, let's get it started. i vote for deb to get it done. it isn't like you have anything to do deb. j/k!

Do you think Nancy Pelosi has had a lift? My husband thinks she paid good money for that firm face (not that there's anything wrong with that...).

Martine Powers we were all wondering when you would show up. Welcome! You sound great! I refuse to believe you are a grandmother. I've decided that none of us are old enough to be grandparents. Case closed!
Deb, no, i wasn't in Grey Gardens. Grey Gardens is a documentary about Jackie Kennedy's eccentric cousins. It's beautifully filmed and edited and tells a bittersweet story about a dysfunctional but somehow beautiful Mother/Daughter relationship and the shifting of emotional power.
When the movie was first released people ran from the theaters screaming that it was the worst movie ever made, it was exploitive, that it was about insane people, blah blah blah.
Well of course it's my favorite movie.
I have seen it at least 10 times since the 70's. I find it almost hypnotic, and always find new things in it whenever I see it.
I guess i was ahead of my time because now it is considered a cult classic and there is currently a Broadway show based on the it.

Dan B. get over here and give me a big hug!!! Its great to see you too Dan, the welcomes have been heart warming to read.

You are so right about Grey Gardens Dan, its all over the place now. I heard Jackie Kennedy tried to help them when she found out but they refused.

Thanks for the Gramma comment Dan, now a days i'll take em when I get em, lolol.
