What does it feel like to be half a century old?

Congratulations, Suzy!

and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Greta!!

Where do you suppose we were 35 years ago today? Kalts? Not So Far From Zanzabar?
Big Boy???

or...oh! I know!! Dirty Jack's Record Rack? Picking out cutouts for your birthday?

Was Pete Godar calling us "ungrateful brats?"

Geez, a million years ago, wasn't it?

Anonymous said...

Congrats Susie and happy b-day Greta!
Claudia...I remember the name but not the place. What was Not So Far From Zanzabar anyway? Was it a head shop? And where was it?

Anonymous said...

It was a VERY cool antique shop where Greta knew the owner. Greta knew all these old (20-30 year olds) people somehow. It was...hmmm...how do I say this? Just down the block from George Webb's on Locust, right next to the alley. It was Balthazar's before that, and was it The Little Shoppe before that??

What's it now? Ya know?

Claud Not So Far From Zanzabar was on Park place between Murray & Cramer- I loved that place & still have a few items I purchased there. I don't specically recal my 15th b-day but I do remember my b-day when we went to the Milw. Athletic Club & I bumped into a very expensive BMW. Do you recall that? I'm sure my parents never forgot that! Thanks so much for the Halmark card, that was very sweet of you & thanks Anita for your call & your posting . It was a wonderful 50th!

Oh brother -- what ELSE do I remember completely wrong? Scary!

And Greta I'm so glad you're birthday was a good one! Frankly, I don't remember your crackup at the MAC. But it's funny now!!
:):):):):)

Greta,
Thanks for the correction on the Zanzabar location. I still can't picture where it was and will have to drive by on my way to work.
Who got it worse...the BMW or you??
Glad you had a nice bday.
Claud - thanks for trying!!

oh shut up. :)

Anonymous said...

It's okay, I have no memory either. Must have been something in those Big Boy burgers.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Peg. I'm sure that was the trouble.

Anonymous said...

Don't you have work to do?

Anonymous said...

You trying to say something, Mortier?

Anonymous said...

I think so but I can't remember!

Anonymous said...

And on that note...I really should get off my work computer and start doing something they pay me to do. The owner had me circulate a memo on how the staff shouldn't be using the work computers for pers. business - little do they know that I am the worst offender!

Did you see Office Space? They've been running that over and over again on Comedy Central and the more times I see certain scenes, the more I have to admit they did a pretty good job.

Kinda like Elf. I didn't like it the first time I saw it, but now I think it's pure genius.

Maybe I just don't get stuff the first time. Couldabeen those burgers, I guess...

All right, all right -- I'll go back to work.

Anonymous said...

yeah, those burgers....

Anonymous said...

Did they affect you, too, Anita? Weird.

Anonymous said...

You could afford burgers at Big Boy?

Good for you.

We split the french fries, we 'wuz so poor.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry.

But actually I think the only thing I ever ate there was coffee, for like...years. Then when I was eighteen I think I finally started eating the fish sandwiches.

Which were good.

Anonymous said...

You know what happened to Big Boy in Shorewood, correct?

(First off, remember that Reagan based his hair-doo on Big Boy's look! (?) Sure coulda fooled me....and Big Boy's IQ was probably higher, too!)

The answer: Big Boy burned down and Schwartz' Bookstore opened.

Now there's a place with a gooood coffee. I don't know how we drank the brown hot water when we were young.

:-)

Anonymous said...

...I actually went for the hot fudge sundaes-- real hot fudge and real whipped cream....

Anonymous said...

Hey 'non, was the coffee that bad? I'd like to get Greta's opinion on that...she would know.

And Anita, we had a restaurant here (that just closed, unfortunately) that had hot fudge sundaes just like that...except they were "chocolate" not hot fudge. But the whipped cream was real, and the ice cream was good.

Btw, can anyone tell I'm doing a sugar fast right now?

Never Fear:

Anon & Coffee Elitist is Here........I'm not addicted, BUT why not drink the best tasting java that's out there.

So many choices these days of premium.

What a country (!)

Actually, in Milw. metro area, Cold Stone is a nice local, indepedent shop that's worth giving your $ bux.

Why oh why (?) the Shorewood supes let Starbucks into the village is worth a mouthful of epithets: #@!&*

It's all $$$

Sadly,my gooddy two shoes Catholic schoolgirl self never let the Andy A. xperience go from xxx 2 XXX. 1 of the only times I regret not ....... ;-D
Alan Lindberg is just 2 cute 2 & I have some very funny & fond memories of those basement make out parties .......... remember any1????? Don't 4get, I'm writing the book so watch what (U don't want 2) say......... ;-D

I want a Hot Fudge Sundae from the Pig & Whistle with a TON of pecans on it like my mother bought me when she was feeling REALLY GUILTY ....is the P&W still around?
Ohhhhh....I'm stuck at the library with NO FOOD! & now I'm dying 2 indulge. Gotta go home to my hommie-made ;-) cheesecake (yes! I even sell them 2 the french bakery here!) & pumpkin pie cheesecake & ....I gotta go, bye bye ;-D

Anonymous said...

...those pecans were just the right amount of buttery & salty... but it was hard to improve over Big Boy's hot fudge-- neither of which are around any longer....

Anonymous said...

I think it's now called something like Riverbrook or whatever.

Us 7th grade thugs from the Intermediate school used to schlep down the railroad tracks to the Pig after school.

The rich preppie boys with their CYO jackets got the butter burgers.....and the poor ones without paper routes got a small order of fries.

Anonymous said...

Finally a moment to say Hi again. I have to write that down, the P&W is now called 'Riverbrook' - sounds so....odd.
Do they have the hot fudge sundaes?
Anyway, just landed a deal with Sam Seltzer's to hold 8MiniuteDating events there & will do so Jan. 17th, Feb. 13th, March 13th etcetcetc. It's so much fun 4 any1 single but looking; like playing musical chairs but grown up (sort of ;-) version. I am the E.O. for Lee & Collier so have a large beat 2 cover playing MCHMKR1 (as my carjacked plates on the '66 SL read back in LA...still have the plates tho' ;-)
I highly recommend the events to all & ours end up on T.V. - have the video - so no married guys show up as they'd get busted on the tube eating popcorn next 2 the lil' Mrs. ;-O!
I'll B on KROQ 96.1 Fri. 11-30-07 plugging all my events plus my song, 'Wrestle The Devil' is scheduled 4 radio play in 2 months!
ThingZ R (finally!) looking UP in life. Oh, I'm starting my LoveBandZ biz with Bob (road Mgr. 4some major Rock 'n Rollers)so that will hit the internet early next year as well. Seriously, I may B able 2 get some hot tix (& back stage passes) 2 a few famous classic rock concerts so email me if there's 1 U wish 2 attend & I'll do my best 4 U. Gotta write my promo 2 'stage' my event on 8minutedating.com now but enjoy the SPiRiT of the Holidays & thanks Susie Morrison & Anita 4 phone time ;-D

8 minute dating?

I'll bet guys like that idea?

That means a guy can date 100s of women per day, correcto?

The whole Speed Dating scheme the fast food of the courtship world, I guess.

I'm like the couple in "When Harry Met Sally" that looked into their eyes and said: "We're so glad not to be in the dating world anymore!."

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Susie!

Where are you going on your Honeymoon?

Anonymous said...

Honeymoon?
I haven't seen Rocky in the past 3.5 weeks 4 more than 2 dates! This will all change tho' as he is exiting the dark underworld of espionage (retiring & selling his P.I. firm in 2008) 2 focus on his real estate schools, consulting & (hopefully) XXXing his future wife.
A honeymoon 4 US would B Paris & Italy most likely but I am open 2 any suggestions. Just remember that we already live in the tropix so not anywhere hot Xcept mayB the South Pacific cuz I did the best 18hours of my pathetic life in Western Samoa as a Senior F.A. (Flight Attendant) on a sub-charter 4 Polynesian Airlines back in 1996......What heaven & some incredible photos 2 recall those precious, unspoiled hours in paradise. Absolutely the MOST CHARMING place I have ever been....;-D

Anonymous said...

Italy is marvelous.....a paradise......The north side of Tobago is a picturesque, quiet place for a romantic honeymoon (Isn't that a given: honeymoon = romantic?!). If you scuba dive, then Tobago is your place.

Anonymous said...

Wow! Never even thought of Tobago.
That may be perfect, have to ask the man his opinion.
;-D

Wow. Is that you? Or a young Meryl Streep?

Now I know why I was so attracted to you. I'm too bashful to be anything but anonymous.

Hi Claudia,

Thank you for your efforts to contact me, I appreciate it; really been great to hear from you and so many others. My professional address has changed from time to time during the “Bush years”, as my work in the non-profit sector now takes me from museum to museum and project to project. Though I travel with my work, my primary residence remains in northwest Michigan. I have a home along the coast just west of Traverse City, where I am fortunate to have the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Manitou Islands for a back yard. A few old Shorewood friends said hello after seeing me in an episode of “Deep Sea Detectives” aired on the History Channel not to long ago, other than that, I have really been out of the SHS loop since the 70’s.

Since hearing that you had put out an “APB” on the missing “slackers”, I was able to find your class blog. It has been great discovering what everyone has been doing with their lives and learning all that has and hasn’t changed. I was quite saddened to hear of those classmates no longer with us, especially Gary and Cinthia, both of whom I shared a connection with during our school years.

Well, it will undoubtedly be a blast getting together on the 22nd. I will try and bring some photos from our “institutional living” days at SHS. I am thinking that somewhere I may still have photos or negatives from the SHS camera club days that were Ripples and Copperdome runner-ups/rejects. If I can find the images prior to leaving for Wisconsin, I will bring them along and/or get them posted here. Looking forward to being in touch...

Regards,

Jed

Hello Jed:

Sounds like you live in paradise.

Good for you.

Which non-profits employ you?

What do you do for museums?

Do you remember we were in Cub Scouts together? That was almost 40 years ago!

What's your email #?

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for saying hello. From the info gleaned in the Memories/bio book Anita shared with me, looks like you have a good thing going. I am beginning to appreciate the idea of your climate, now that yet another Michigan winter has set in early.

A sound like we could have fun exchanging Bush bumper stickers or sharing a night on the town, swing is favorite dance music here as well.

Your career sounds plenty interesting. What type of writing are you doing? Do you work private sector or for the state or feds? Right now I am bouncing between all three. My last staff position was Curator with the Michigan Maritime Museum. Other than the usual collections/exhibit work, I helped to research and design the interior of an 1810 replica sloop called the Friends Good Will. The 1.3 million dollar boat takes school groups and families on educational sailing trips out of South Haven, Mi. Involved with some underwater archeology projects right now.

If you would like, feel free to write me at waterborneproject at yahoo dot com, it would be fun to catch up and share a few photos. Best wishes for the New Year.

Regards, Jed
