Meeting Here (minus the snow)

Kathy Nelsen is hosting a reunion get-together this Saturday, March 31st, around 2pm
at her home, which, incidentally, was where Don Byrne lived during high school. If you can't find the place, call or email someone--

Please bring any completed forms, if you have them, and a check would be great!

Hey, is anyone interested in scanning our senior photos from the yearbook into digital format? I don't have mine anymore (boy, do I regret tossing it into the trash heap now) and I'd like to use the photos in the Reunion Memory Book.

Let me know if you think you can, or would like, to do this.

Thanks,
Rebecca

Well. Since I left my yearbook in my locker the last day of school, I'd LOVE to see this done. I wonder how much work we're talking about!

Let's find out.

I can do that I don't think it would take that long if you are doing whole pages at once. If you want individuals that would take some time but would give you more options for using them

That would be great, Kathy. Whole pages are fine. Once they're in digital format, I can crop what I need.

Wow Claud!
You sound like my brother Fred who left his leather coat behind in his locker the last day of school! Not to mention the incomplete papers he left. Hmmm, perhaps you two had something in common.
I would still like to know who was the culprit who stole my mmm boy Big Boy bank from my locker! This nags me as I see them in all sorts of antique stores now! Any suspects? If so It's time to fess up!

Mmm-Boy Big Boy! Damn Greta I forgot about that. Hilarious!

Remember, Big Boy was only for past french fry fights.....don't type in "Big Boy" into a search engine/Google when you're at work. Sirens will go off and security will be at the door. Around the Bay Area where I live, you never turn your head toward someone asking who "Big Boy" is......My wife is glad I don't know any big boys.......Daniel

I just keep thinking of those poor waitresses -- ugh -- all those smartmouthed kids and no tips!! (At least not from this smartmouthed kid, there weren't.)

Remember old Lorilei??

Lorilei? Who was that? And, besides, Claud, 'twern't you a Benjies HangOut Gal?

As for tips, we gave her the most important one she needed: We let her know when we'd shine around.

By tipping her off, the waitress would work on other days than our typical days of arriving

Well....I did have a bit of a crush on a guy who worked at Benji's -- brother of yours, was he? Ahem...but I wouldn't say I hung out there. I was true to the Boy...the Big one. How much did we pay for coffee, by the way?

Not much back in those days! I remember having 5 cups at a time! Wow was I juiced up. I'm a tea & water drinker now.
Lorilei- Oh my god ! I can still see her face - she was the feminine match to mm boy big boy - amazing , the resemblance between the two.
I'll never forget the back room where about 6 of us sat one day for lunch - Peter Wells was with us & the waitress spilled a salad on my head that had 1000 island dressing on it dressing in it -what a mess. It was just great having to rinse my hair in the girls room before returning to school! I have a lot of memories of 5 am meetings there before school.
Just an FYI- they don't exist in WI anymore but when Don 7 I went to MI last year we passed one - I still regret we didn't stop in - I so wanted to taste a swiss miss burger again! ( does anyone remember that?) You've got to love that orange & turquiose blue combination. What a time1

OK, a few years ago we were driving through Indiana going somewhere on vacation with the kids. And we saw a Big Boy. And I said, "Oh my God, we've GOT to go there and get some supper." Let's just say, some things taste better when you're 16 than they do when you're over 40....

I think you were just missing all that fine dinner conversation we used to have, Rebecca!

the hot fudge sundaes are just not the same-- the fudge isn't as thick & creamy, and they don't use real whipped cream any more. What do they know about real dairy products in Michigan and Indiana, anyways....

Hey you guys, you don't think we're starting to sound like...om...the older generation, do ya?

Now we're talking about soda fountains, the way they USED to make ice cream, and I practically have to pinch my lips shut to stop myself from saying to my daughter, "You call that MUSIC???"

Anybody seen my glasses?

if it's too loud, you're too old? What???

a big boy chime in -
money buns and vanilla coke kind of gal here.
and let us not forget the lovely background music. i can't believe i can still hear that elevator music.

Speaking of true music vs. "You call that MUSIC?" (Claud's comment), you're totally and absolutely right on. They joy of today's youth with music is always different than the earlier generation's.

I, too, have no idea how you listen to current genres of music. They seem joyless.

That compares with the absolute fun and joy of Big Band Jazz and the Classic Jazz era from the around early 20's through around 1956.

To each his/her own, but there's a reason why icons like Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, and Cab Calloway (to name just a few) remain in reverence.

How many of the current top ten artists for youth will be remembered almost 100 years later?

Daniel,
On that note I recall the first time I heard the Rolling Stones , Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Todd Rundgren on the overhead speakers at Kohls grocery store( ~ 10 yrs ago!) Then I KNEW I had become a target "old fart" audience. Let's face it - there's no goin' back!! Oldies are goodies, no matter what you like it's all relative. ( especially to the targeted ones of "the market" )

My boys play that Guitar Hero, video game, and the music on it is mostly familiar to me......
Alman Bros. Journey, etc. They both know "Freebird", so I don't feel too bad, or too old - yet.
Youngest plays in a Jazz band, so he is up on the 40's & 50's stuff.
I just cannot deal with the punk stuff.
We all like Green Day, & Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Greetings from Pensacola, Florida. I attended SHS from 72-75. I left Milwaukee in the spring of 1977 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard (Thanks to Jed Jaworski !! ). I thought I would not do more than my first four year commitment, but ended up making a career out of it. I retired from the Coast Guard in 2001 after 24 years of service. I was married (unfortunately that ended in 2003) and have five beautiful children. I am hoping to make this reunion. It will be great to see old friends and hear about the paths that life has taken you on. I am currently working for the U.S. Navy in Pensacola and also work part time for Continental Airlines. I would love to hear from some classmates !! My email address is daveplus5@cox.net. Hope to see you in Milwaukee this summer !
