Good morning all and Happy 2007! Hope everyone's holidays were filled with all things wonderful! Been caught up in all the frenetic chaos that the holidays bring and didn't have a chance to post but I enjoyed catching up and reading all the blog entries since Christmas. The other day my girls wanted me to go thru my yearbook with them and connect faces with the names that I've mentioned since the birth of this blog. Talk about a trip down memory lane!! Of course, it gets a little weird when my 14 year old starts asking questions that are a bit more probing ( we actually had a drug/sex conversation about a month ago when it was just her and I in the car and she hit me with a double whammy-"did you ever smoke pot and did you have sex before you were married"? Whoa! I've read where car rides are a good time to talk to your teen about sex/drugs but I don't think it meant child grills parent about parent's illicit activity history!) Anyway, it was fun to show pictures and retell some "appropriate" stories.
Well, just wanted to wish everyone good health, peace and joy in '07. Happy New Year!!
Thank you Claudia. I am finally starting to feel "normal" again. The good news is I lost 5 lbs - bad news is I can't wear shoes! But it's been a great opportunity to wallow(sp?) in self pity, which is always fun! I hope everyone has a great year. I can't wait to see everyone in July.
You are so funny, Peggy. I didn't understand the shoe thing for a second! From what I gather you are in for a bit of a hassle with your cast and driving for a while. Not to mention walking.
Thank you, Claud, you little cheerer-upper, you!
And Patti it is so good to see you again. I guess I'd better start formulating my own plan for this. Maddie of course knows we're alcoholics -- she's been coming along to AA meetings since she was born, so she's heard my story many times. But the sex thing...hmmmm. Hmm.
Patty How did you answer the drug / sex questions? I am gathering info for what is soon to be my turn. What about everyone else? Be honest or lie like you never have before?
Patti nice to see you again and Peggy glad your on the mend. One thing I have not done YET is break a bone, ouch! Well Claudia, I now have some time to watch some Movies I got as gifts. Tonights feature is "The Hurricane" with Denzel Washington. Happy New Year Everyone :)
I don't know about all of you, but as much as I love the Holidays, I'm glad they are over. NO more shopping, it bores me to pieces. Though I must say had a great new years eve., sung really badly on the karatoke and proud of it! Made no year resolutions, would'nt keep them anyway. I'll just keep being me!
I don't make resolutions, either, Laurel -- I'd just beat myself silly with them anyway.
I saw Hurricaine and liked it. But it was a long time ago! What else did you get? And did you figure out the slackercooks thing? I answered on the other site.
Claudia, I was the Movie and Laurel was the Recipe, keep up Woman, lol. Anyway, the other Movie I got was "World Trade Center" with Nicholas Cage. Think I will watch that one with a box of tissues. And I got Tony Bennett's "An American Classic". It was a special on TV too in which he did Duets with a Variety of Singers from yesterday and today, very cool! I'm with you both on not making resolutions so would somebody else start my diet for me? lol
Happy 2007 !!! Ditto Laurel. I love the holi"daze", but everyday life gets put on hold, I even forgot to pay bills! Glad to get on with regular schedules. My NY Eve was very nice and quiet, neighbors came & left early. I got to see most of the Packer Game, and will admit I cried when Brett cried!!! Take care all....
Oh Peggy, so sad to hear about your pain and nausea. Having to put up with a broken digit and the flu at the same time - and you do it with a sense of humor too! That should help you heal faster. Brett leaving? I am going to say that he will be back - only because I am in denial.
Happy New Year all and everyone (!)....Movie Thumbs Up option: Word Play (based on the NY Times PuzzleMaster/Crossword Guru Will Shortz' life and his funny-eccentric cronies who are also WordSmithLads and WordSmithLassies....Very creative flick.
Brett? All Good Things Come To An End....He's Still Super But His Team Is Not (Super) Bowl Bound....So what's his choice? To play for 'Da Bears (that need a Major League Quarterback). Errr, I don't think so. How about coaching your freshman college daughter's volleyball team next year, Brett? (If I were he, I'd rather see my two daughters finally than play another year for $11 million; he can make that much in endorsements off the field, no?)
P.S.: The xc skiing through the quiet forest over the holiday at 7,000' was mah-vellous (Billy Crystal accent)
Ok nice to finally get here. Anita I told you by the first of the year I'd be on line (so I'm a few days late) better late than never! My siblings & I had our first christmas together in over 30 years! It was a great time.My e-mail address is greta longreen@sbcglobal.net (hope I did that right!)Happy new year everyone!
Hey, good job, Greta! I am very impressed! Now maybe you can pass on the tech support to Bill Schulte-- he just emailed that he can't figure out how to blog, AND his computer guy is stumped as well. (I hope he gets a new computer guy.)
Daniel! Nice to see you again!! Good that you're getting out in the fresh air-- big-city life probably doesn't allow for much of that.
Oops Greta I just tried to email you at gretalongreen@sbcglobal.net and it bounced back. Do I have the address right? I'll check again and you check again. thanks!
Glad to hear from you Greta! I was talking to Anita, and was telling her that I too waited quite awhile to use the internet, because I felt like it was just one more thing I had to do, now I love it. It gives me all the information I need and has now connected all of us, so good things do come from this.
Wow, Greta! So glad you made it! And glad to see Patti again.
I spent New Year's offline for five days and with my cousins in Albany, NY (yes, glamour capital, but I love them) and then came home to the news that Nora needed emergency wisdom teeth extraction (all four) and, well, I've lost that holiday spirit. She got Valium for the trauma, why didn't Mom? She'll be fine but it's been a rough couple of days. But no broken toes and no flu for me! Happy New Year, everyone!
funny, Laurel! Hey, Joan-- not to one-up you or anything-- but my oldest daughter was somehow endowed with a small jaw and 6 (yes, six!) wisdom teeth that were all extracted at once! This was many years ago, but I remember that she was heavily medicated and could not chew food for over a week. The organic babyfood and blender drinks were okay for awhile, until someone came over with a hot'n'ready cheese pizza that she was so sad about not being able to eat. Well, I took a slice and put it in the blender along with a little water... and, voila! Yes, as I poured it into the bowl, it looked disgusting! But I tasted it and was AMAZED at how it still tasted just like the same pizza, only it didn't need to be chewed!! Weird, hey?
pizza thru a straw? Responding with the overused word of my 10 year old, "eeeuuwww"! But it is good to know that if my sustenance should depend on pureed food I can still enjoy some of my favs.
Laurel, your story brings a visual to mind and I can't help but laugh!!
Yeah Greta!! Glad to see you're online.
Anita and Story, how's the weather by you guys? It's 50 degrees here! My kids are going buggy 'cause there's no snow. But my husband and the two older ones are heading out to CO (where there's no lack of white stuff) in 3 weeks for a long weekend of skiing.
Happy New Year all! Guess where Szumski siblings and kids (25) met for Xmas holiday week. Milwaukee is looking good! Since Lisa's was voted best pizza by this class, we made a point of working that onto the menu one evening. Lisa's is number one, Pizza man a close second. Other highlights: Kopps nearly every night (the kids expect it). Bayshore Mall's transformation into a green zone of commercial culture is startling and fun. Why didn't I ever visit Turner Hall before? It was lots of food and family. My only regret is that I didn't bump into any classmates at Sendiks. Best wishes for a great 2007.
Welcome Greta & Mike Sz. Bill S: you do need a new computer guy? Joan & Claudia initially helped me to post with a few sentences in a Email????? Welcome back Joan, missed you. Albany is only a four hour drive for me!!! Ice Cream for Nora! I had my Wisdom teeth out one at a time in college, the 2 bottom ones were growing down into my jaw, not up? JOY. I could write a book on my boys medical situations. All of which I could have used pills..... (I didn't think of it Laurel??) Each son been in the ER 4 times: breaks, burns, stitches, infections, etc etc. Alex had a root canal at the ripe old age of 7 (front tooth). And now he has been walking around with a broken arm since Thanksgiving. (He thought it was just a sprain???). Don't know why I don't have grey hair?? I've become immune to their bumps & bruses, & am sure there's a file with DSS with my name on it???
You girls are so funny..........I do have a few grey hairs- on my bangs. Yes the bangs are to conceal my wrinkly forehead!!!!! AND I have every other aging issue known to man, and women.......I won't go into the details, they are too scary, and I don't want to chase away any of the lurking males that are reading this right now!!!!!
Deb, Botox is the way to go I know this from living in Beverly Hills. The women here grab a latte, hit the gym and then their plastic surgeon's office, ok you get the plan now? I ofcourse hate standing in any kind of line, less one for stupid coffee, working out.....BORING! So after my botox, I come home don't smile at anyone in the house and they all know where I have been! Good luck! P.S> I have no gray hair.
Thanks for the advice, Laurel, but doubt I'll go for that route, not yet anyway. Not a Latte person either.......guess I'm not the California type?????? Have a great weekend all.
Weather you ask? May I just say that I am soooooo tired of the rain. Patti, oh how I miss the CO powder. My all time favorite spot was Breckenridge. Lisa's, Kopp's and Sendiks are constants for us. Turner's is a sure thing, though I haven't been there in soooooo long. Odd thing, how I have never run into anyone from Shorewood in the 17 years that I have been separated from the village. Have to check out Bayshore next time. The same development is in the finishing phases here. I think we might be popping back into Milwaukee before spring break. I am so looking forward to seeing all the changes since our last tour. By the way Laurel, I am working on a little surprise for you. It will show up here one of these days if it works. Ok, if I can get it to work.
Well Martine do you have to give away all my secrets! It's takes a lot of work to stay blonde! Story, why do I think this surprise may be a very scary picture? I can't wait too see your surprise. Speaking of weather, how weird it has been. New york 72 yesterday. It's been very windy here. Power lines down and tree's down.
Thanks Anita. You're correct. BUT I didn't have Wikipedia as a GreyHound in high school. I only got Internet access in 1977 after I invented the Internet with Al Gore.
Well, after carefully reading Anita's blogging instructions I will attempt to blog for the first time. Claudia I know you sent me these instructions but I must have deleted them.
I just finsihed reading the other postings and man I have been missing the boat. So much info a man doesn't even need to read the papers. From botox to teeth extraction its all here. It is hard to believe that after all these years the class of 76 is so alive and well. Never had any doubt but this certainly proves it.
Hi Bill, welcome! Dan will you be getting any botox, now that I'm sure you have read up on it? For those who care and to those who have shamed me I have finally put up a recipe on our cooking blog!
Congratulations, Bill! Good to see you here-- glad you made it! Hope you will be adding more insight to all this wealth of information that we're gleaning from greyhounds! Hey, weren't you the dog expert?? Next meeting is on January 20th if that works for all. Time & place are not set, yet. Is there a time that works best?
Martine, will you share your story with everyone about Dan and Alison Dance? It's really interesting and I think it would be great to get in touch with her.
Bill! So glad you made it...oh, it's not just Botox and teeth extractions, it's hair dying, sangria recipes, the meanest teachers at SHS/SIS, and what to tell your teens when they ask about your teen years. Offline some of us are getting college application advice. Wish I could make the Jan. 20 meeting, but keep me in the loop and let me know what I can do from a distance.
oh yes Joan, can you believe we have one more year before sending our babies off to college! I'm in shock. It's been a very intense time with preparing for the SAT's. But, I'm also a very positive person, though I still have one more to get to college, I keep thinking how clean the house will be!
Hi Bill, glad you made it. Laurel is still having problems with posting so don't feel so bad! (just kiddin Laurel - love ya) It looks like the 20th will work for all. Let's meet at Stone Creek again on Port Rd in Glendale - say 11:00? Laurel, to hell with the Botox. I am pushing my kids to become cosmetic surgeons! By the time Sydney graduates from med school I will be about 95, but I'll have the tightest ass in the nursing home. (Oops, can I say ass on here?) I just got back from a boring work dinner at Buccas, but I made the best of it with a bottle of good wine. Now I must sleep.
Welcome Bill! -- Your Precious 108 words are great to read. What memories we have of riding in the back of old, big, clunky, yellow school buses on our way to bring victory on the hoops court to the The GreyHound Kingdom.
Now we're just part of the graying kingdom.
But that's Just For Men....or something like that?
Does that work like Botox, Laurel? Anita?
Can I use Botox on my cement wall by my vines and tomatoes? It's starting to split and it says in Wikipedia that Botox prevents cracks.
Anyway, Bill: You simply must tellllllll us MORE!
Inquiring Guys and Gals need more info: 1. Are you really a Dog Lover? (Ours is an adorable, adopted 12-year-old black lab. Only 6 more years and she'll be off to college like all the rest of your squeaks. Like Laurel, I cannot wait to see how clean the house will be!!!!
2. Are you still in Shorewood?
3. Are you a wine aficianado as a professional?
4. Do you still play hoops? (I haven't dribbled anything for 25 years, though my wife says I'm always defensive and my remarks in front of her boss are offensive.)
Again, welcome Bill! -- and what about your cool brothers? What are they doing in life?
Well, the other night my Husband and I were out to Dinner and decided to take a drive to the downtown area and check out any new sites. Anyway, we both saw a place that looked interesting called "Barclay Gallery & garden cafe". We were browsing the Gallery then went to look at the Cafe and check out their Menu. As we were browsing at the yummy Menu there was a Jazz Pianist playing in which I remarked boy is he good. I looked over at him and sure enough it was Dan Dance! I asked him about Alison and he said she is great and living in CO. She has a wonderful Restaurant there which I looked up right away. If any are interested her Web Site is cypruscafe.com When you bring it up click on Our Staff and there is a Pic of her and a breif Bio on her, she looks Fantastic! Whenever she came to my house she always had her guitar and entertain us with her lovely voice :)
I love dogs as long as they can hunt. I love good wine but retired from the wine business 4 years ago. (Peggy FYI there is no good wine at Bucha - ha) I could not stand the travel. I joined the family business with my brother Mike (insurance all kinds) Brother Paul lives to Grand Rapids and is a consultant with Watson Wyatt. Litle Peter is the national sales manager for Schwisher Tobacco and lives in Portland. We all see each other whenever we can and the nephew and nieces are all very close.
I stopped playing hoops when you beat me out of the starting guard position. I still play tennis 3-4times a week. I live in Mequon with wife Lisa ( formerly Johnson)daughter Beth 16 and son Matt 20. Matt is sytudying in Spain and is home for the Holidays. I can't wait for him to leave as bad as that sounds. Anyone else out there that feels this way about there college kids?
So cool to hear about your brothers, I was wondering about them as well. Portland Maine, or Oregon? I think about two dozen of SHS 76 grads live in Mequon, you could form an alumni association! The last time I was in Milw. and Mequon, I was so surprized how built up Mequon was.... shee shee and upscale.!!! My boys are 14 & 16, and I am just entering that college application phase of teenagerdom. Driving too. HELP!! Good to see you on the blog Bill!!!
Bill: Excellent to hear, as playing tennis 4x per week means you must still be wonderful.
Do you stay in touch with Leif Shiras? I heard him as a tennis colorman announcer on the USA Network around 10 years ago. He was one of the best, incisive commentators that I've ever heard. Is he still a tennis pro in CA? Announcing? -- as I haven't heard him lately....Great to hear about your brothers, Bill.
Leif is the most worked commentator out there. He lives in the LA area and does about 23-30 events a year. He won Wimbelton 35 and over in doubles a couple years ago. Proud father of two boys. I still keep in touch with him.
Bill Sounds like LA could also be a place for SHS ALumni club. Many classmates living there. Does't Suzy DelaHunt live there & play tennis? Re: Golf. Many interested in playing.

Oh rats now you can't benefit from my vast knowledge on the subject...
Patti nice to see you again and Peggy glad your on the mend. One thing I have not done YET is break a bone, ouch!

Welcome Greta & Mike Sz.

Speaking of weather, how weird it has been. New york 72 yesterday. It's been very windy here. Power lines down and tree's down.
Here's a stttupppidddd question:
What's Botox?
Daniel, Daniel-- do what your teachers always told you-- Look it up! Did you know that there's a free online encyclopedia called Wikipedia?

Hi Bill, welcome!
Dan will you be getting any botox, now that I'm sure you have read up on it?
For those who care and to those who have shamed me I have finally put up a recipe on our cooking blog!
Congratulations, Bill! Good to see you here-- glad you made it! Hope you will be adding more insight to all this wealth of information that we're gleaning from greyhounds! Hey, weren't you the dog expert??
Next meeting is on January 20th if that works for all. Time & place are not set, yet. Is there a time that works best?
Who can make it?
(just kiddin Laurel - love ya)
It looks like the 20th will work for all.
(Oops, can I say ass on here?)
I just got back from a boring work dinner at Buccas, but I made the best of it with a bottle of good wine.
Inquiring Guys and Gals need more info:
If any are interested her Web Site is cypruscafe.com
When you bring it up click on Our Staff and there is a Pic of her and a breif Bio on her, she looks Fantastic! Whenever she came to my house she always had her guitar and entertain us with her lovely voice :)
Dan,
I love dogs as long as they can hunt.
See ya
Bill
Daniel, who is only a Raquetball Guy....
Leif is the most worked commentator out there. He lives in the LA area and does about 23-30 events a year. He won Wimbelton 35 and over in doubles a couple years ago. Proud father of two boys. I still keep in touch with him.
Deb Pete lives OR.
Golf outing in July anyone care to play.

Sounds like LA could also be a place for SHS ALumni club. Many classmates living there. Does't Suzy DelaHunt live there & play tennis?
Re: Golf. Many interested in playing.
OK, Deb-- get Bill a list for golf
