Love the Pic of your house Anita :)
I just cant take any more snow, we have had around 80 inches so far, ugh!
I swear about all I have done this Winter is shovel. And while I look at it as great excercise, enough is enough already!
I sure am looking forward to Vegas in May. Never been there but cant wait for the warm weather, ahhh.
Happy Birthday Laurel!!!
Hope your trip was relaxing and fun.

Great Pic Anita
I remember one year here in New England we got 110 inches! This year only about 20+. I hear the same thing from my WI friends, the *snow* is driving you all nuts, and cannot blame ya. Spring is coming soon, in the meantime, What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right Martine!!!! Hope the snow melts by the time you return in May?

Hey, we got 300" of snow two seasons ago in the Sierra mountains where we xc-ski skate.

One time we arrived to the house and even the shovels were buried. It took us 1/2 hour to get in the front door after huffing and puffing and threatening to blow the door down (after we pawed our way into pile to find the shovel).

One time that winter we were cabin-fevered inside for a couple of days while the snow kept falling.

At the height of the snow, it was mid-April (!) and the house was nearly buried. It was July before it all melted.

This year, similar snowfall totals are mounting their charm.

To be a shoveler up there or a snow cat/plow remover is a big bucks lifestyle.

Now, Laurel: It's time for you to chime in and mention it was 80 degrees in LA-LA Land the other day. Where are you when we need juxtaposition! :-)

Sorry everyone that I didn't respond sooner, but it takes time to put on all that sunscreen!
I'll post back in a bit on my way to the pool for a dip before working on the tan. Will this warm weather ever go away?

OK, I lied, no one took the bait. It's cold and raining...feel better?
Where are all your kids that are graduating in the class of 2008 going to school? I have one going to SMU in Dallas and the other going to UCLA here in LA. Wouldn't it be great if some of them end up at the same place and become friends!

Nice picture of your house Anita.

Sorry I missed the Christmas get-together, but I did have the opportunity to have lunch with Kathy during the holidays.

I guess Shorewood got quite a bit of snow lately, according to my parents. And it's raining again in the Silicon Valley - the month of January was wet too.

I'll probably be back home in the summer, as usual.

Take care, Peter

Hey everyone! No snow here but it's been cold and rainy...Laurel, my daughter still doesn't know where she's going next year but I will keep you posted, we are doing last minute school visits to the finalists she gets in to -- how do you know already?

Thanks, Anita, for a new post and the photo of your lovely house!

Forgot to say thank you to Martine for the big 50 birthday wish....well she does know since we speak often and to Anita, I too loved the picture of your home. Joan and I e-mailed and can't wait to hear from all the others of where your children are going to school. How strange after all this time our children are now our age when we parted ways and began our journeys. It's really only the beginning as our lives will have many important journeys on the way.
My best to all of you.

eh, it was almost 70 here yesterday, and then the rains came, aaarrggghh.
But that isn't why I stopped by. Just wanted to hip you to this great organization.
Anyone who spends any time shopping on line should know about iGive.com. Basically, any time you order something online from one of the participating stores, they give a percentage to the cause of your choice--any cause, and if it's not on their list, you can add it. It can be anything from the March of Dimes to a personal cause (the example in the link is someone's kids' dance school). And all you have to do to send the donation is go to the iGive site first and choose the store from there instead of going to it directly.

The list of stores who participate is really long, and includes the Apple Store (including iTunes), LLBean, 1-800-Flowers, and Banana Republic, to name just a couple. (Amazon is not a participant, unfortunately, but B & N is). I found out about them when the Wild Animal Sanctuary joined a year or two ago.

And you can have more than one cause.

Here is the link for more info and to register:

Hope everyone is warm/dry/wet/cool or whatever twists your noodle.

Winter up here in Wausau also, I practically haven't been back to the blog since summer. Never could see the pictures. Glad you all are still here.
Life just kind of gets in the way. My 2008 senior is going to Oshkosh. Two down, two to go. I still have a 9 year old and a 21 year old who should get off the payroll soon. You guys should join facebook, Suzie started a slacker group there for us. I never know which picture to leave a comment on. I refuse to shovel anymore this year, Mexico here I come, 15 days. Why am I still in wisconsin

Happy Spring in 9 days -- from I-won't-tell-you-the-temperature in northern CA today.....

Hey Anita, thanks for getting us rolling again!!!

Daniel I know I was supposed to post your link and completely forgot about it...but wait'll you hear my excuse!! It's a doozie. :)

Anita, I love that picture and to answer your question, the weather in Montana is beyond beautiful -- we have warm and sunny during the week and snow for skiing in the weekends -- never seen anything like it. We are famous for our miserable, sunless winters around here...

As for the book, I received an offer on it last week and my agent and I will be working out the details of the contract this week, I hope. It's all pretty exciting and new -- I should be able to tell you more once I've signed.

In other news I suppose it's as good a time as any to let you guys know that I got a bit of a surprise around Christmas this year, and was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now not to tell anyone how to feel about this but really, it is NOT A BIG DEAL!! I've already had the partial mastectomy and there was no node involvement -- all good. I have the best docs and family and friends here, and expect to begin chemo (a short 3 months!! yay) in about a week or so. It has been delayed a couple of times by strep throat and sinus infection. One must be in the very best of health before beginning, which sort of makes sense...

Anyway -- I talk a little bit more about it on my slayer blog if anyone's interested -- mostly about how grateful I am that it's only breast cancer, and I know I'll be fine.

Plus it is very cool how the book deal came at the same time as the cancer -- it sort of takes the intensity out of both of them...I can't sustain that much fear and excitement for both of them all the time, you know? Funny how that works -- I'm very grateful.

Hope it was okay to bring this up here -- I just don't know, really, how to approach it with you guys and as I say: it's just not that big a deal...

love, c

and HAPPY HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, LAUREL!!!!!! XOXOXO

Hi Claudia,

I want to thank you for sharing your very personal and I imagine quite scary experience with breast Cancer. However, your positive attitude is something to be admired and probably what helps alot in going through this. To say and believe that everything is going to be fine proves just that.

And Congrats to you on your Book deal my dear, how fantastic is that!!! I hope you can feel the positive energy being sent your way.
